The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there is no denying its coming 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 You will become three categories: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and extended shade, 30 and flowing water 31 and fruits abounding 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
