The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and serried acacias, 29 and shade extended, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
