The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
