Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets set forth 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
