The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 those who, when they are to receive their due from [other] people, demand that it be given in full 2 And who, when they measure unto them or weigh for them, diminish. 3 Do not these think that they shall be raised again 4 On a grievous day, 5 when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin - 7 What could let you know what the Sijjeen is! 8 it is a written record. 9 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 None denies it but the sinful transgressors. 12 When our signs are recited to him, he says, 'Fairy-tales of the ancients!' 13 No indeed! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 No indeed, on that Day they shall be veiled from their Lord. 15 Then verily they will be roasted into the Scorch. 16 and it will be said to them: 'This is that which you belied' 17 No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun; 18 and what will make you understand what the 'Illiyyin is? -- 19 It is a written book, 20 The ones nearest to God will bring it to public. 21 The virtuous will surely be in bliss, 22 resting on couches, looking around. 23 You shall see upon their faces the glow of bliss. 24 They will be served a drink of the finest sealed wine, 25 pouring forth with a fragrance of musk. To that [wine of paradise,] then, let all such aspire as [are willing to] aspire to things of high account: 26 And the admixture of it is a water of Tasnim, 27 a source [of bliss] whereof those who are drawn close unto God shall drink. 28 Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 and whenever they pass by them, they wink at one another [derisively]; 30 And when they returned to their household they returned jesting. 31 And when they saw them, they said: verily these are the strayed ones. 32 And they were not sent to be keepers over them. 33 This day it is those who believe who have the laugh of disbelievers, 34 On thrones, they will look. 35 Surely the disbelievers are rewarded as they did. 36
