The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and banana trees, 29 And shade extended 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
