The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
