He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him you attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
