The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
