He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 So you are after him! 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
