The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the Great News 2 About which they differ? 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And made the night as clothing 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 Recompense fitted! 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
