We sent a revelation to Moses saying, "Take away My servants by night and strike for them a dry path through the sea. Have no fear of being overtaken and do not be afraid." 77 Then Pharaoh followed them with his hosts and there covered them that which did cover them of the sea. 78 And Fir'aun (Pharaoh) led his people astray, and he did not guide them. 79 O Children of Israel! We delivered you from your enemy, and we made a covenant with you on the holy mountain's side, and sent down on you the manna and the quails, 80 'Eat of the good things with which We have provided you and do not transgress therein lest My Anger should fall upon you, and upon whosoever My Anger falls has assuredly fallen, 81 Yet withal, behold, I forgive all sins unto any who repents and attains to faith and does righteous deeds, and thereafter keeps to the right path. 82 ۞ “And why did you come in haste ahead of your people, O Moosa?” 83 He said: "They are close behind me, and I hastened to You, Lord, that You may be pleased with me." 84 Said He: "Verily We tested your people in your absence and the Samiri led them astray." 85 With great anger and sorrow, Moses returned to his nation. 'My nation' he said, 'did your Lord not make you a fine promise? Did the time of the covenant seem long to you? Or did you desire that the anger of your Lord should fall upon you so that you failed in your coming to my appointment' 86 They answered, "We did not break our promise to you of our own accord, but we had to carry loads of the people's ornaments and so we threw them [into the fire] for that was what the Samiri suggested," 87 So he brought forth for them a calf, a (mere) body, which had a mooing sound, so they said: This is your god and the god of Musa, but he forgot. 88 Did they not see that it did not give them any answer, nor had it power to do them harm or bring them gain? 89
