The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the mount. 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 And the swollen sea 6 Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
