The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Abasing exalting. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and spreading shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
