and We saved the Children of Israel from a humiliating punishment 30 [inflicted on them] by Pharaoh, seeing that he was truly outstanding among those who waste their own selves; 31 and We chose them, out of a knowledge above the nations (of their time). 32 and gave them such signs [of Our grace] as would clearly presage a test. 33 Most surely these do say: 34 There is naught but our first death, and we shall not be raised again. 35 So bring our fathers [back], if what you say is true. 36 Are they better or the people of Tubba and those before them? We destroyed them, for surely they were guilty. 37 And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, in play. 38 We created them not save with a purpose but most of them know not. 39 Surely the Day of Decision shall be their appointed time, all together, 40 The Day when no protector can avail his client in aught, and no help can they receive, 41 save those to whom God shows mercy. Surely, He is the Mighty, the Merciful One. 42
