The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
