The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Burning the skins! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
