He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he feareth 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives, and palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
