The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night enshrouding 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And rejects the best, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 But save him who fears 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
