The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
