The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the star when it sets: 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
