A numerous company from among the first, 39 and a good many of later times. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 Verily we are undone. 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
