The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 And those who of their trusts and their covenant are keepers. 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
