Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
