The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude of those of old 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And raised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
