۞ He it is who created you from a single soul, and He created therefrom his spouse that he might find repose in her. Then when he covereth her she beareth a light burthen and fareth about therewith; then when she groweth heavy the twain call upon Allah their Lord: if Thou vouchsafest us a goodly child, we shall surely be of the thankful. 189 But when He giveth them a goodly child, they ascribe to others a share in the gift they have received: but Allah is exalted high above the partners they ascribe to Him. 190 Do they (the pagans) consider things that do not create anything but are themselves created equal to God? 191 And cannot provide any help to them, nor do they help themselves? 192 And if you invite them to guidance, they will not follow you; it is the same to you whether you invite them or you are silent. 193 Verily those whom ye call upon beside Allah are creatures like unto you; so call on them, and let them answer you if ye say sooth. 194 Do they (the idols) have feet to walk, hands to hold things, eyes to see, and ears to hear? (Muhammad), tell them (the pagans) to call on their idols for help and to plan against Me without delay. 195 Lo! my Protecting Friend is Allah Who revealeth the Scripture. He befriendeth the righteous. 196 And those whom you invoke other than Allah, they can neither help themselves nor you. 197 (Muhammad), if you invite them to the right guidance, they will not listen to you. You will see them looking at you but they do not really see. 198 Be tolerant; enjoin what is right; and avoid the ignorant. 199 If you are instigated by the Devil to evil seek refuge in God, for God hears all and knows everything. 200 Indeed those who fear get alerted whenever a temptation from the devil troubles them, and they perceive immediately. 201 As for their brethren [the Satans], they draw them deeper into error and do not relax in their efforts. 202 And when you, [O Muhammad], do not bring them a sign, they say, "Why have you not contrived it?" Say, "I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This [Qur'an] is enlightenment from your Lord and guidance and mercy for a people who believe." 203 So when the Qur'an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy. 204 Remember your Lord in your soul with humility and fear, and not with a loud voice, morning and evening, and do not be among the inattentive. 205 [even] the ones [angels] who live in the presence of your Lord are not too proud to worship Him: they glorify Him and prostrate themselves before Him. ۩ 206
