The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 But We see it very near. 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Except those who pray, 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
