He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
