۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 Said he: "Indeed, you and your forefathers have obviously gone astray!" 54 They said: 'Is it the truth you have brought us, or are you one of those that play' 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. 58 "Who has done this to our deities? He must be a wrongdoer." 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 Their chiefs said, "Bring him before the eyes of the people and let them testify that he has spoken against the idols." 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 So they turned to themselves and said: "Verily, you are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)." 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 He said: What! do you then serve besides Allah what brings you not any benefit at all, nor does it harm you? 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
