The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Mount, 1 and by the Book in lines 2 On an open record. 3 And the House frequented, 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 And the swollen sea, 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." 28
