He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he fears, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
