Aaron had already, before this said to them: "O my people! ye are being tested in this: for verily your Lord is (Allah) Most Gracious; so follow me and obey my command." 90 They said: "We will not stop worshipping it (i.e. the calf), until Musa (Moses) returns to us." 91 But (Moses) said: "O Aaron, when you saw that they had gone astray, what hindered you 92 from following my way? Have you disobeyed my command?" 93 He said, “O son of my mother, do not clutch my beard nor the hair on my head; I feared that you may say, ‘You have caused a division among the Descendants of Israel and did not wait for my advice.’” 94 Said Moosa, “And what is your explanation, O Samri?” 95 He answered: "I have gained insight into something which they were unable to see: and so I took hold of a handful of the Apostle's teachings and cast it away: for thus has my mind prompted me [to act]." 96 Musa said: begone thou! verily it shall be thine in life to say no contact; and verily thine is an appointment which thou shalt by no means fail. And look at thy god to which thou hast been assiduous; we shall surely burn it, and we shall scatter it into the sea a wide scattering. 97 But the god of you all is the One Allah: there is no god but He: all things He comprehends in His knowledge. 98 Thus We relate to you the history of past events, and We have given you a reminder [the Quran] from Us. 99 Whoever turns aside from it, he shall surely bear a burden on the day of resurrection 100 They will abide in this (state): and grievous will the burden be to them on that Day,- 101 The day the trumpet blast is sounded We shall raise the sinners blind, 102 They shall consult together secretly: You did tarry but ten (centuries). 103 We know very well what they will say, when the best among them in knowledge and wisdom will say: "You stayed no longer than a day!" 104
