He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 You neglect. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
