Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 an orphaned relative 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
