Aaron had told them before, "My people, you are deceived by the calf. Your Lord is the Beneficent God. Follow me and obey my orders". 90 They said: We shall by no means cease to be its votaries till Moses return unto us. 91 Then Moses asked Aaron, "What made you not follow me when you saw them in error? 92 So that you did not follow me? Did you then disobey my order? 93 He said: O son of my mother! seize me not by my beard nor by my head; surely I was afraid lest you should say: You have caused a division among the children of Israel and not waited for my word. 94 [Moses] said, "And what is your case, O Samiri?" 95 He said, "I perceived what they did not see. So I took a handful [of dust] from the footprint of the Messenger and threw it in [the calf]. That is what my inner self prompted me to do." 96 'Depart!' said Moses. 'It shall be thine all this life to cry "Untouchable!" And thereafter a tryst awaits thee thou canst not fail to keep Behold thy god, to whom all the day thou wast cleaving! We will surely burn it and scatter its ashes into the sea. 97 Your only deity is God - He save whom there is no deity, [and who] embraces all things within His knowledge!" 98 (O Muhammad), thus do We recount to you the events of the past, and We have bestowed upon you from Ourself an admonition. 99 If any do turn away therefrom, verily they will bear a burden on the Day of judgment; 100 They will abide in this (state): and grievous will the burden be to them on that Day,- 101 The Day the Horn will be blown. And We will gather the criminals, that Day, blue-eyed. 102 In whispers will they consult each other: "Yet tarried not longer than ten (Days); 103 We know well what they will utter, whereas the wisest among them will say, “You have stayed just for a day.” 104
