Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 Call to mind when he fled to the laden ship, 140 And then they cast lots and he was the one who lost, 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, 143 he would certainly have remained in its belly till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore while he was sick, 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 Then We sent him to a hundred thousand or more, 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 Then ask them whether your Lord has daughters and they have sons. 149 Or that We created the angels female, and they are witnesses (thereto)? 150 Behold, it is one of their fabrications that they say: 151 Allah has begotten; and most surely they are liars. 152 Does He prefer sons to daughters? 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 What, and will you not remember? 155 Or have you clear evidence? 156 Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful. 157 And they have invented a blood-relationship between Him and the Jinns: but the Jinns know (quite well) that they have indeed to appear (before his Judgment-Seat)! 158 Glorified is Allah! (He is Free) from what they attribute unto Him! 159 except for God's sincere servants. 160 So you and your deities 161 you shall tempt none against Him 162 Except the one who will go into the blazing fire. 163 Of us there is none but hath a station assigned. 164 We are surely those who are arranged in ranks. 165 And we are most surely they who declare the glory (of Allah). 166 And indeed, the disbelievers used to say, 167 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients, 168 We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. 169 But when it came to them, they rejected it. They shall soon come to know (the end of such an attitude). 170 And certainly Our word has already gone forth in respect of Our servants, the apostles: 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 and that Our hosts shall triumph. 173 So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time. 174 And watch them and they shall see (the punishment)! 175 So are they being impatient for Our punishment? 176 When it comes down on their plains, it will be an evil dawn for those who had been warned. 177 And turn thou aside from them for a season. 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Honor, above what they describe. 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 And all praise unto Allah the Lord of the worlds. 182
