He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
