Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
