The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
