The Thamud belied the sent ones 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
