The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 So made them as maidens. 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
