He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 You neglect. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 and angelic scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 Olives and dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
