The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
