And to the Thamud [We sent] their brother Salih. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. This is the she-camel of Allah [sent] to you as a sign. So leave her to eat within Allah 's land and do not touch her with harm, lest there seize you a painful punishment. 73 And remember when He made you successors after the 'Aad and settled you in the land, [and] you take for yourselves palaces from its plains and carve from the mountains, homes. Then remember the favors of Allah and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption." 74 The chief of those who behaved proudly among his people said to those who were considered weak, to those who believed from among them: Do you know that Salih is sent by his Lord? They said: Surely we are believers in what he has been sent with 75 Those who were haughty said: Surely we are deniers of what you believe in. 76 So they hamstrung the she-camel and rebelled against the command of their Lord and said, “O Saleh! Bring upon us what you promise us, if you are a Noble Messenger.” 77 So the earthquake overwhelmed them, and morning found them prostrate in their dwelling places. 78 So Salih left them, saying: "O my people! I did indeed convey to you the message for which I was sent by my Lord: I gave you good counsel, but ye love not good counsellors!" 79 Lot told his people, "Why do you commit such indecent acts that have never been committed by anyone before? 80 Verily, with lust you approach men instead of women: nay, but you are people given to excesses!" 81 His people had no answer to his remarks but to tell one another, "Expel him from our town; he and his people want to purify themselves." 82 Thereupon We saved him and his household except his wife, who was among those that stayed behind 83 And We rained down on them a rain (of stones).
