The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and spreading shade 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 We have made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For those of the right hand. 38
