Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
