(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
