The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 who guard their privates 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
