The Spider (Al-Ankaboot)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 Do people think they will not be tested because they say, "We have faith?" 2 We had tried those who were before them so that God knew who spoke the truth, and who were liars. 3 Or do they who commit evil deeds imagine that they can escape from Us? What an evil judgement they impose! 4 Whoever hopes for the Meeting with Allah, then Allah's Term is surely coming. and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 5 And whoever strives, strives only for himself, God is independent of all His creation, 6 We shall expiate the sins of the righteously striving believers and shall reward them better than their deeds. 7 Now [among the best of righteous deeds which] We have enjoined upon man [is] goodness towards his parents; yet [even so,] should they endeavour to make thee ascribe divinity, side by side with Me, to something which thy mind cannot accept [as divine,] obey them not: [for] it is unto Me that you all must return, whereupon I shall make you [truly] understand [the right and wrong of] all that you were doing [in life]. 8 We shall admit those who believe and do the right among the righteous. 9 Some people say, "We have faith in God." But when they face some hardship for His cause, they begin to consider the persecution that they have experienced from people as a torment from God. When your Lord grants you a victory, they say, "We were with you." Does God not know best what is in the hearts of every creature? 10 God certainly knows all about the believers and the hypocrites. 11 The unbelievers say to those who believe: 'Follow our path, and we will carry your sins' Yet they cannot carry even a thing of their sins. They are surely lying. 12 But they will surely carry their [own] burdens and [other] burdens along with their burdens, and they will surely be questioned on the Day of Resurrection about what they used to invent. 13
