The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Closer and closer to mankind comes their Reckoning: yet they heed not and they turn away. 1 Whenever a new revelation comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it in a playful manner, 2 Their minds are lost in frivolous pastimes; and the evil-doers discuss secretly: "Is he not but only a man like you? Then why are you taken in by magic seeingly?" 3 He said: "My Lord knows well all that is spoken in the heavens and the earth. He is All-Hearing, All- Knowing." 4 Nay, but they say: 'A hotchpotch of nightmares! Nay, he has forged it; nay, he is a poet! Now therefore let him bring us a sign, even as the ancient ones were sent as Messengers.' 5 Of the villages We destroyed, there was not one that believed. What, will they not believe? 6 And We sent not before you, [O Muhammad], except men to whom We revealed [the message], so ask the people of the message if you do not know. 7 And We made them not bodies not eating food; nor were they to be abiders. 8 In the end, We made good unto them Our promise, and We saved them and all whom We willed [to save,] and We destroyed those who had wasted their own selves. 9 We have sent a Book, (the Quran), which is an honor for you. Will you then not understand? 10
