The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And extended shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
